Homemade meals can be cheap, delicious and satisfying, and difficult to prepare, especially when you have a ton of them. But the best cookware can alleviate a lot of that lousy time.
If your kitchen is insufficient, food prep can be fraught with tedious chopping, messy spills and stirring, and in the end, a sink full of heavily soiled dishes. Fortunately, when you have certain kitchen utensils at your disposal, cooking can become something to look forward to instead of a tedious chore. Or, at the very least, with the way 2021 is rocking, something you can do easily and smoothly, without adding to the stress of the day.
“The right kitchen utensils can almost convince you to cook a meal at home, which will be superior to take-out nine times out of 10.” Rachel Beller, MS, RDN, founder of Beller Nutrition in Culver City, Calif., Tells SELF. “It’s that difference between being proactive and having this mental block of feeling like it’s just too hard to execute.” With everything going on these days, anything that makes life easier is a big win in our book.
That doesn’t mean, however, that you should fill your kitchen drawers and counters with trendy gadgets that will be collecting dust a year from now. “As soon as it has billions of parts in it and it’s a little hard to clean, I know it’s a short-lived recommendation, and I’m not going,” Beller says.
We asked dietitians and chefs to share the essential kitchen utensils they all use when preparing food to make meals faster and easier. Here are a few that you might want to add to your drawers. An additional bonus? You’ll likely end up saving more at the grocery store because you won’t need to spend that much money on expensive prepared foods.
